Yes, although rare, weddings can certainly be white tie. White tie is considered the most formal of all dress codes and is more common at events like the Met Gala or occasions celebrated by royalty.
The attire requirements for white tie are strict. Your ensemble will include a black tuxedo tailcoat and matching trousers, a starched tuxedo shirt with a wing collar, a white cotton pique waistcoat, a white bow tie, and patent leather dress shoes or patent opera pumps. Although a white cotton pique bow tie is most traditional, you may substitute it for a white silk bow tie.
Practice tying your bow tie so you're sure to get it right for the actual wedding. Don't go the easy route and wear a pre-tied or clip-on bow tie — neither will match up to the elegance of your ensemble.
Subtle accessories are an important part of your total look. Consider a fresh flower boutonnière. A carnation is the traditional boutonnière flower for white-tie.
Balance your tailcoat with a fine white pocket square. Shirt studs and cufflinks will complete your look.
