The Tie Bar had humble beginnings at Greg and Gina Shugar's home in the Chicago area in 2004. Both attorneys, they were fed up with spending a small fortune on neckties, and watching all their friends do the same. Rather than going on complaining, they took action. Greg dove into design, and Gina hit the books to learn the retail business. Mistakes were made. Bad words were murmured. But eventually things clicked, a first collection was created and a website was launched.
Soon after our virtual doors opened, our neckties were featured by folks who take ties very seriously - GQ® Magazine*, NBC, USA Today and The Wall Street Journal. We've also had the opportunity to partner with some amazing people: actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson and his organization "Tie The Knot" - supporting the fight for marriage equality and NBA superstar Dwyane Wade on a special collection of bow ties, neckties and accessories, among others.
In 2013 The Tie Bar embarked on a new era, taking on additional investment and widening The Tie Bar Team to expand on all the success that had been achieved to-date.
Our line has grown to include pocket squares, tie bars, scarves, cufflinks and other accessories - all designed by us! We pride ourselves on our team's extensive research into global style and fabric trends, assuring that the tie you choose will be appropriate for any occasion you find yourself in.
