How The Tie Bar Staff Incorporates Our Fall/Winter '25 Collection

Our team is always looking for new ways to style our newest ties, knits, and accessories, so we turned to our staff for some inspiration.

While we all love ties, The Tie Bar staff is full of individuals with different approaches to styling and fashion. Whether it’s casual and laid-back or preppy and sophisticated, we have pieces for everyone.

At our home studio in Chicago, we wanted to showcase our new Fall/Winter Collection while also highlighting our team’s individual style. Some worked in their own wardrobe favorites, vintage finds, and pieces that felt personal — but all feature a little Tie Bar twist.

Check out everyone’s final look below, and read about where people finds their styling inspiration, from menswear magazines to the people around them.

Michelle Kohanzo, President

Wearing our Stewart Tartan Plaid Red Tie and Point Collar White Non-Iron Dress Shirt under the Merino Heritage Shawl Graphite Cardigan

Michelle Kohanzo, President of The Tie Bar, wears a shawl cardigan over a Scottish tartan tie.

It was a warm day, so I was wearing these really oversized white shorts with the classic Tie Bar white pinpoint dress shirt and a new grandpa shawl cardigan that is so soft. I paired it with one of my favorite new Scottish tartan plaid ties for a punk look — made even better by all the cool vintage band buttons I borrowed from Onyx.

I definitely dress for my mood, I like avant-garde shapes and loads of color. Some days I feel preppy and other days I feel feminine and frilly. The one commonality is beautiful fabrics always.

Onyx Martinez, Senior Visual Stylist

Wearing our Knitted Black Tie and Button-Down Collar White Non-Iron Dress Shirt

Onyx Martinez, Senior Visual Stylist for The Tie Bar, wears a black knitted tie with a double-breasted suit.

I wore our classic button-down white dress shirt, a vintage-inspired double-breasted black jacket, and high-waisted charcoal trousers — with our simple black knit tie for a nod to mid-century modern dressing. Really wanted this outfit to echo the golden era of Hollywood tailoring inspiration, such as Cary Grant and Fred Astaire.

As we all look to fashion magazines and old photos from the 1960s in menswear, I look to recreating moments that feel attainable today, speaking to the average Joe. Classic washed oxfords, worn in denim, and a monochromatic tailoring (black, white, charcoal) that keeps it clean, versatile, and sharp.

Francesca McGraw, Senior Merchant

Wearing our Vegan Leather Black Tie as a belt

Francesca McGraw, Senior Merchant for The Tie Bar, wears our vegan leather tie as a belt.

I wore a vintage Italian wool blazer that my mom passed down to me, paired with a flowy white maxi skirt — perfect for those in-between fall days when the mornings are chilly but the afternoons warm up. Since I walk a lot, comfortable yet polished footwear was a must. I’ve been really enjoying mixing menswear into my looks, so I used our new Vegan Leather Tie as a belt, which felt like the perfect accessory to tie everything together and finish the outfit.

I’d describe my style as feminine with a twist. I love incorporating unexpected elements to bring a little edge and personality to my outfits.

Bayani Seldera, Flagship Manager

Wearing our Pinpoint Stripe Grey Non-Iron Dress Shirt, Butcher’s Knife Silver Tie Bar, and archived Allegro Solid Champagne Tie with a custom Made-to-Measure Reda Herringbone Suit from The Tie Bar

Bayani Seldera, Flagship Manager of The Tie Bar, wears a double-breasted suit with a cowboy hat.

I wanted something soft when I made this suit, so the blend and the herringbone pattern gave me that — with fabric from Reda. I try to make sure I dress for comfort. Typically I achieve this when it comes to fabrics by avoiding synthetics that will degrade and become uncomfortable over time.

My personal style is inspired by those I respect, and through my personal experience. I usually try to make sure my clothes are tailored to be timeless — not too loose, not too tight — while occasionally incorporating contemporary aesthetics, like an oversized pair of trousers. Overall my wardrobe consists mostly of classic tailoring, but you’ll also find a lot of ivy style, western wear, and whimsical pieces that I find fun.

Cristina Dillon, Director of Marketing

Wearing our French Cuff Merino Charcoal Turtleneck Sweater with the Alberobello Paisley Burgundy Pocket Square

Cristina Dillon, Director of Marketing for The Tie Bar, wears our turtleneck sweater underneath a blazer.

I wore a single-breasted herringbone blazer over our Merino Charcoal Turtleneck Sweater, paired with a Paisley Pocket Square from our Italian Collection. This look is very comfortable yet still polished — what I’d call Parisian-inspired with a subtle nod to Western style through the pocket square. It’s important to me that my outfits feel effortless while still carrying intention, and The Tie Bar pieces bring that refined detail.

My style revolves around sophisticated staples, usually in neutral colors, but I like to work in a fun accent — sometimes that’s a bold red sneaker. I think leopard and stripes are neutrals in their own right. I love mixing casual or relaxed pieces with more tailored ones, like throwing a blazer over a graphic tee, especially a band shirt. It’s a balance of polish and ease. Never too fussy, but always considered.

Angela Pyne, Brand Designer

Wearing our Pinpoint Stripe Classic Blue Non-Iron Dress Shirt with our archived Southport Dot Cacao Scarf as a belt

Angela Pyne, Brand Designer for The Tie Bar, wears a dress shirt and scarf as a belt.

I wore the Southport Dot Cacao Scarf, but wore it as a belt around my waist. It was a classic hot day in Chicago, so what better way to make use of a scarf in the summer heat than wear it as a belt? I thought it added a bit of fun and texture in an otherwise simple outfit. I love adding a little drama to my outfits.

My style is a little bit of everything these days. On days when I’m training for something, I opt for a simple t-shirt and jeans. I always pair it with some funky sunglasses or jewelry to spice it up. On days when I’m not running, biking or swimming, I love to dress to impress and opt for something smart-casual.

Kayla Turley, Assistant Merchant

Wearing Wabash Linen Flax Crewneck Sweater over our Point Collar White Non-Iron Dress Shirt

Kayla Turley, Assistant Merchant for The Tie Bar, wears our linen sweater.

This is one of my favorite sweaters in our assortment. I love the effortless look and feel of it, and I wanted my outfit to feel effortless but thoughtful and chic. I paired the sweater with wide-leg trousers, with the color almost giving a monochromatic vibe — a trend that I love right now. I styled it with sneakers for approachability and a belt for contrast. I wanted to capture modern, casual sophistication; polished but easygoing.

My style is eclectic but cohesive — sometimes neutral and understated, but sometimes bold and playful. I love mixing feminine and androgynous looks, dressing for the occasion, and celebrating the versatility of style and expression.

Lianna Thierry, Customer Experience Associate

Wearing our Merino Ivy Pine Polo

Lianna Thierry, Customer Experience Associate for The Tie Bar, wears a green sweater polo.

I really wanted to let The Tie Bar piece be the star of the show. I love having a statement piece in an outfit, whether it’s an accessory, a pop of color or pattern, or an interesting shoe. I went with a super standard base, my most comfortable white tee and favorite pants. The Tie Bar polo kept the look relaxed and added that gorgeous deep green color that I always have fun pairing with my hair.

I’m always thoughtful about my clothes. I love having statement pieces so that also means I have a lot of basics to balance it with. I try to make my looks feel classic even if they’re laid back or are polished off with a ginormous red purse.

Austin Hojdar, Social Media Manager

Wearing our Pigeon Repp Stripe Light Green Tie, Button-Down Collar White Non-Iron Dress Shirt, and Lakeshore Wool Flannel Grey Jacket

Austin Hojdar, Social Media Manager for The Tie Bar, wears a grey wool suit with a repp stripe tie.

I styled our newest Pigeon Repp Stripe Tie with our grey wool suit jacket, and a pair of denim. My go-to office outfit is a button-down with a sometimes unexpected tie — whether it’s one of our own or vintage — and our new critter ties are the perfect blend for me between sophisticated and silly.

I think I would describe my style as intentionally laid back. Obviously I’m choosing to wear a tie, but by loosening the knot and rolling up my sleeves, I try to go for a put-together look that still doesn’t look like I overthought it. Even if it’s just a t-shirt and jeans, I try to apply that to whatever I’m wearing by adding a weird hat or cool shoe.

Larissa Felix Taveira, E-Commerce and Brand Marketing Coordinator

Wearing our Lakeshore Wool Chalk Stripe Charcoal Jacket and Point Collar White Non-Iron Dress Shirt

Larissa Taveira, E-Commerce and Brand Marketing Coordinator for The Tie Bar, wears a chalk stripe jacket and dress shirt.

I wore 90s-style jeans with a blazer from The Tie Bar, which really brings out my classic side. I borrowed a white dress shirt from my husband which, paired this way, feels relaxed and unexpected. I finished the look with sandals for a touch of femininity and accessories for that mix-and-match vibe I love.

I would describe my style as classic, with a love for timeless pieces like blazers and jewelry. I usually aim for an elegant, polished look, but my mood often influences my choices. On more playful or outgoing days, I incorporate brighter colors and tailored pieces. Above all, what matters most to me is seeing myself in the mirror and feeling authentic. Attention to detail and high-quality craftsmanship are essential in everything I wear.

JC Gruta, Assistant Stylist

Wearing our Merino Ivy Pine Polo and Textured Leather Black Belt

JC Gruta, Assistant Stylist for The Tie Bar, wears our green sweater polo.

I’m wearing The Tie Bar’s take on sweater polo with some relaxed fit, pleated trousers, and my favorite Oxford dress shoes from Velasca. I wanted to try something new with this and luckily it worked out. I never thought to tuck in a sweater polo and wear relaxed fit trousers, so all of this is a new look for me, but I’m glad I took the risk.

I’m always looking for inspiration and new ways to style an outfit and kind of take things from different places and incorporate them. My style will vary day to day, week to week, season to season — it really does depend on mood and the weather that day. A majority of the time, I would describe it as preppy-adjacent with a mix of workwear and street style.
