Pocket squares are the easiest way to add a pop of color or pattern to your most basic shirt-and-jacket combos. You can easily dress up a pocket square for big meetings, formal events and weddings with a tuxedo or suit, or down for quiet days and elevated weekend style with a sport coat or denim jacket.
Square Fold
The easiest way to style a pocket square is with the Square Fold. Even though it’s a simple process, it’s the most timeless way to feature a pocket square in your jacket’s breast pocket.
Here are the steps:
- Unfold the pocket square completely and lay it on a flat surface.
- Turn the pocket square upside down.
- Fold the pocket square in half, horizontally.
- Fold the pocket square in half again, vertically.
- Fold the two lower corners up so they hit just below the top edges.
- Flip over and tuck into your jacket pocket, adjusting the width until it fits from edge to edge.
Puff
Instead of a traditional fold, wearing a pocket square with the Puff can add a casual flair to an ensemble, while still making sure you look put-together.
Here are the steps:
- Unfold the pocket square completely and lay it on a flat surface, then pinch the center.
- With the center securely pinched, pick it up and allow it to hang down naturally.
- Keep holding the center, and carefully fold up the gathered fabric.
- Tuck the folded end into your jacket so the puff shows.
Reverse Puff
The Reverse Puff requires similar the same steps as the normal Puff, but features the opposite end poking out of your breast pocket for extra flair.
Here are the steps:
- Unfold the pocket square completely and lay it on a flat surface, then pinch the center.
- With the center securely pinched, pick it up and allow folds to form naturally.
- Keep holding the center. With your free hand, gently gather the fabric together.
- Carefully fold the gathered fabric and tuck the puff into your jacket pocket so that the pointed end shows.
