Seersucker Season: The Coolest Suit for Warm Days

It’s crisp, classic, and cool, making it the perfect choice for spring and beyond.

Now that we’re consistently hitting mid-70-degree days, it’s time to break out suits that not only look cool but keep you cool. Linen comes to mind, of course, but that’s a fabric we’ll be reaching for in a few months when summer’s humidity hits full force. For now, we’re letting seersucker do the work.

This lightweight, puckered cotton fabric is a warm-weather essential, offering breathability and timeless style. You’ve probably seen it in The Great Gatsby or maybe on a few unfortunate Easter outfits. Seersucker is synonymous with spring showers, pastel colors, and — most importantly — keeping you dry when summer’s heatwave inevitably rolls in.

LAKESHORE NAVY SEERSUCKER

The History Behind the Fabric

Seersucker traces its roots back to British colonial India, with its name derived from the Persian phrase shīr o shakar (meaning “milk and sugar”) — a nod to its alternating smooth and puckered textures. By the early 20th century, seersucker had made its way to the U.S., becoming a hallmark of Southern gentlemen, summer suiting, and Ivy League style.

In the 1920s, Princeton students and East Coast elites embraced its rumpled-yet-refined aesthetic, shifting seersucker from workwear to preppy fashion. Today, it remains a warm-weather staple, adopted by brands (ours included) as the go-to fabric for staying sharp without breaking a sweat.

Our Modern Fit Light Blue Oxford is ideal for spring and summer wear.

How Seersucker Feels

Seersucker’s signature crinkled texture comes from a weaving process where some threads are pulled tighter than others, creating a mix of smooth and puckered stripes. This unique construction allows for natural air circulation, making it ideal for hot, humid climates.

It’s crisp without being stiff, breathable yet structured, and downright stylish — the kind of fabric that looks better the less you fuss with it. Think of it as built-in climate control for your wardrobe. And those natural wrinkles? They’re not just for show; they mean you can skip the ironing and still look put-together.

How to Style a Seersucker Suit

When most people think of seersucker, they picture the classic blue-and-white striped pattern. But our tonal Navy Lakeshore Jacket and matching Pants offer a more understated, elegant take on the fabric. Made from 97% cotton and 3% spandex, they keep you cool and comfortable while maintaining a sharp silhouette.

With a distinctive texture, our Navy Seersucker keeps you cool and comfortable without compromising on sophistication

Thanks to its deep navy hue, this set works just as well as separates. Try pairing the seersucker pants with a knit polo for a relaxed yet polished look, or wear the blazer over an oxford and jeans for an easygoing, put-together outfit. And don’t overthink the wrinkles — a little nonchalance only makes the look better. This suit should be the first one you pack for warm-weather weddings or romantic weekend getaways with your life partner.

We’ve styled ours with a light blue oxford, Geo Navy Dress Socks, a classic white pocket square, a knit tie, and a pair of brown Belgian-style loafers. The light blue oxford provides a subtle contrast against navy, keeping the look fresh (white can sometimes feel too stark). Different shades of navy in the socks and tie add depth, while brown dress shoes strike the perfect balance — refined enough for a suit yet relaxed enough to pair with jeans or chinos. The result? A warm-weather ensemble that’s crisp, comfortable, and undeniably cool.
