Introduction:
With so much newness popping up in neckwear these days (which is a good thing), many men are scrambling to figure out how to wear their new tie. That's why we started this section.
We'll try to update this about twice a month. But if we don’t, we’re sorry. We’re busy designing ties and making sure your orders are shipped.
And remember – these are not rules. Just suggestions.
Harmonizing Your Colored Shirts
Entered: 03/23/12
When wearing one of your multi-colored shirts, simply find a tie that matches up with just ONE of the colors in the shirt. Try a contrasting pattern (here we have stripes with dots) and you’re all set to kick some butt at work.
Paisley…Going Outside Your Comfort Zone
Entered: 02/22/12
While paisley has been strong in neckwear since its re-emergence 5 years ago, we find that younger guys still fear (or abhor) it. Don't! Paisley is a colorful and artistic way to enhance your white shirt/navy suit ensemble. That means – keep it simple with everything else and let the tie do all the work.
Love This Aqua Shirt – But Which Tie?
Entered: 02/07/12
Ever impulsively purchase a shirt you like, only to realize later that you have no idea on how to wear it? Here we have an aqua gingham shirt, which most men assume must be worn with an aqua tie. Boring! Instead, try another pastel color that works with the aqua – like a fuchsia plaid tie.
Wearing Stripes with Stripes?
Entered: 01/30/12
Not only is it allowed, it looks great! But you have to make it easy on the
eyes. To accomplish this, pair a tie that has stripes that are sized
differently than those in in the shirt. (And try to keep your pinstripe suit
in the closet that day. There is such thing as overdoing it.)
Busy Shirts
Entered: 01/23/12
Dress shirt style has evolved since the days of solid whites. And now more than ever we’re seeing plaid, stripes and checked dress shirts out in the marketplace (and in your closet). So which tie do you wear with it? Try a simple (i.e., non-busy) tie that contains one of the colors found in your busy shirt. Such simple ties can include textured woven solids, larger monochromatic patters, and 2-color college stripe ties.
Add a Little Splash of Color
Entered: 01/11/12
If you’re not looking to dominate your outfit with color, try a little splash with our colored tie bars. Start with a colorless backdrop (like this white shirt and gray chambray cotton tie) and use a similarly colored pocket square to further bring out the tie bar’s rich color. An absolute conversation starter.
Plaid is Back
Entered: 12/14/11
If you haven’t noticed, plaid came back strongly in neckwear in 2011 and its presence will be even stronger in 2012. Don’t be afraid to wear it.
Plaids are festive, yet appropriate for most occasions. When wearing a plaid tie, let the tie do the talking (so the bolder, the better). Wear a more subtle dress shirt. Finish it with a tie bar and your look is complete.
Wearing a Knit Tie 101
Entered: 12/08/11
Knit ties are versatile. What used to be a warm weather tie has now become a year-round tie. And it can be worn anywhere. The easiest way to wear a solid knit tie is with a gingham shirt – which, if you don’t own one by now, is a whole different discussion.
Wear it to the boardroom (if you’re important enough to be invited in there), wear it on Casual Friday (please, not a t-shirt), or wear it out on the weekend (yes, we said to wear a tie on the weekend – trust us).
